With a doctor on standby to aid pregnant singer Hillary Scott in case of emergency, country music superstar trio Lady Antebellum had the sold-out crowd at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights on their feet right from the opening strains of “Downtown” on Thursday night.
“How we doin’ tonight Michigan,” Scott shouted in the opening number.
Thursday’s show was one of the trio’s last before Scott takes a brief leave from the band as she is expecting to give birth to a daughter in July.
Joe Vicari of Luna-Hillside, the management group that runs Freedom Hill, said the band brought along an OBGYN to care for Scott in the last days of her pregnancy on the road.
Regardless of her noticeable growing stomach, Scott and fellow singers Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood gave stellar performances of all of their hits including a”Run to You,” “Lookin’ for a Good Time,” a stripped-down version of “Need You Now,” along with material from their latest album, “Golden,” and a couple of classic covers including Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” and the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women.”
Scott’s pregnancy was a topic in the crowd in the concourse prior to the show.
“Even though she’s pregnant, I think she’s still going to deliver — and I don’t mean the baby,” said Kimberly Smith of Clarkston. “She’s very good. I am very excited to see the band”
